Hand hygiene is the key to preventing infection

We have been communicating regularly with our staff and supplying updates from SA Health on the risk of influenza and COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

We will also provide regular evidence-based information for residents and families.

Staff returning from overseas are required to self-isolate for 14 days before return to work, or provide a medical certificate confirming absence of influenza and COVID-19. We request visitors with ‘flu-like symptoms or who have traveled overseas recently call the home before coming in and we retain the right to restrict entry to protect the health of our residents and staff.

We will revise our policies rapidly as required in response to changes.

We encourage vigilance though currently residents and families should be reassured Ananda has plans in place and is closely monitoring the stuation.

In the meantime, and in any event, hand hygiene remains the best defence against spreading germs. We have provided online education for our staff about infection prevention, and this includes this video on how to wash hands, which is also useful for residents and families to see. If you feel staff are not washing hands correctly or regularly please tell a Team Leader or Registered Nurse as we all need to maintain a clean and safe home.

Click the link above and then click on the video ‘quick view’ to watch the video on how to correctly wash hands.

All visitors are requested to use the hand sanitisers on entry and exit to the home as well as wash their hands using water as in the video after leaving a resident’s room. We request visitors carry out hand hygiene and wear personal protective equipment as directed by our clinical staff.

Thank you for your cooperation.
